Illustration of our Thermal Engineering expertise through 5 projects in the Middle East
Our experts have successfully supported numerous thermal power plant projects worldwide.Discover below five such projects, ambassadors of the global expertise of our Thermal Engineering in the Middle East.
Technical & economic assessment of the Jiyeh power plant, Lebanon

Electricité du Liban (EDL) and the Lebanese Council for Development & Reconstruction (CDR) commissioned our teams to assess the feasibility of their project to modernize the Jiyeh thermal power plant in Lebanon.
Optimization of gas turbines, lifespan extension... the needs for technical recommendations were numerous regarding the fate of the Jiyeh power plant.
Our Thermal Engineering experts were called in during the preliminary support phase as technical and economic consultants to look at the following issues:
- Technical and economic feasibility studies
- Technical assessment of the use of heavy fuels in the plant’s gas turbines
Construction of Aweer thermal power plant – Dubai

DEWA, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, has appointed our Thermal Engineering as project management consultant to provide support to design and build a new thermal power plant, the AWEER project.
For the AWEER project, our Thermal Engineering teams are delivering comprehensive services: project development, monitoring of design studies provided by the selected EPC contractor, supervision of construction and commissioning of the power plant scheduled to be commissioned in 2020, consisting of three 233 MWe gas turbines.
Our client wishes to secure the electricity output in the region and to operate an efficient power plant. We provide services via our dual consulting and technical expertise:
- Design and feasibility studies, environmental impact assessment, geotechnical surveys
- Management of RFQ / bidding process
- Monitoring of studies done by EPC contractor
- Supervision of construction works and commissioning Assistance during the warranty period
Performance assessment of the Can thermal power plant – Turkey

Our Thermal Engineering was appointed to assess the performance of the Can power plant in Turkey.
Our teams conducted a status assessment of the facilities and delivered a series of technical recommendations:
- Assessment of the operation of two coal-fired units, each with a capacity of 300 MWe
- Analysis of the general operation methods of the power plant and its various components
- Technical recommendations to optimize the overall performance
Construction of an eMonitoring centre to optimize the SEC thermal power fleet – Saudi Arabia

We provided technical consultancy assistance to the Saudi Electric Company (SEC) for the construction of a remote monitoring (eMonitoring) centre. The purpose of the GOC (General Optimization Centre) project was to optimize the efficiency of the client’s thermal power assets.
The challenge for our client was to have the ability to monitor the performance of their power plants remotely and to share their operating data with the company-wide management system.
To meet this challenge, our Thermal Engineering experts supervised the development and configuration of the tools for the optimization centre, as well as its construction, with support from a team seconded in situ and a back-office team based in Paris.
We are also providing coaching and training assistance for the operational staff of the new centre.
Feasibility studies and technical consultancy on the dismantling of the Jiyeh power plant – Lebanon

Electricité du Liban (EDL) and the Lebanese Council for Development & Reconstruction (CDR) have appointed our teams to assess the feasibility of their project to deconstruct the Jiyeh oil-fired power plant.
The Jiyeh thermal power plant needs to be replaced in order to contribute to the increase of the electricity generation capacity in the country.
Our Thermal Engineering experts worked as technical and economic consultants to design the plant’s dismantling phase, prior to its potential reconstruction. This is the second phase of our service provision, further to our initial technical assessment of the existing power plant.
For this project, we provided consulting services on two fundamental topics:
- Feasibility studies
- Management of RFQ process
