Transmission and distribution
We support our clients in their development projects of new lines and help them to strengthen the security and to improve the performance of their power systems. We offer innovative solutions, especially to integrate renewable energy on networks or automate electrical systems. EDF also has a large expertise to reduce technical and commercial losses (customer inventory, accounting and recovery of consumption, etc...)
Several studies and achievements that we have led allowed us to develop a strong expertise and excellent knowledge of the electrical infrastructure of the Middle East.
MASTERPLANS
EDF led several master plans in the Middle East: master plan of the United Arab Emirates, master plan of the Kuwait, different master plans in Lebanon (275 kV, 220 kV, 150 kV).
Contract with SEWA (Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority) for a production-transmission master plan in UAE.
SMART GRID
Conception of a "smart grid lab", dedicated to the experimentation of low and medium voltage smart grids, simulation of outages, validation of installation conditions and use of new equipments.
INTERCONNECTIONS
The Group performed the study leading to the interconnection of the UAE in 400 kV and the study for the operation and the interconnection of Sultanate of Oman with the UAE.
LINES, CABLES, SUBSTATIONS
EDF oversaw the installation of five transformer stations 132/11kV in Dubai, the construction of the 400 kV substation of Barakkah nuclear power plant (Abu Dhabi) and the engineering of 15km of underground cables and a 400 kV in Mamzar Project (Dubai).
The Group drafted also the tenders documents for the construction of three 220 kV medium voltage urban substation in Lebanon.
EDF will conduct studies and supervise the connection to one of the Al Yasat islands, situated in the west of Abu Dhabi. The project envisages connecting the island to the mainland via an underwater cable of 30km, the construction of a substation on the island, the overhaul of the local distribution network and the review of diesel production facilities.
Studies, design, tender evaluation and supervision of the modification of the 220kV substation as well as the integration into TRANSCO LDC.
POWER SYSTEM CONTROL TOWER
EDF performed the supervision of the new national dispatching system of Abu Dhabi and provided consultancy for the national and regional dispatching supervision in Yemen.
EDF also contributed to the integration of the Fujairah-2 (2000 MW) cogeneration plants into the Transco and ADWEC (Alstom Power) systems.
INTEGRATION OF RENEWABLES
The Group will carry out for DEWA an impact study on the integration of solar energy generation in the electric network of the Emirate of Dubai.
Consultancy services (studies, design, tender evaluation, supervision of the modification, integration) for the modification of Sweihan PV plant substation (UAE), allowing the connection of the new Solar plant to be constructed under ADWEA contract.
REDUCING LOW VOLTAGE LOSSES
EDF provides technical assistance including a diagnosis and the associated recommendations (technical doctrine evolution as well as reinforcement studies) to be undertaken in order to reduce Jepco’s technical losses.
